Terms of service for renting from us.

The rules that apply when you rent a car from The Car Rent Company: who can drive, what the deposit is, what the day rate covers and what happens if something goes wrong. Governed by the laws of Punjab, India.

Eligibility

Who can rent a car from us?

To rent a vehicle from us you must meet all three of these. We check them before handover, and sending them on WhatsApp in advance means approval takes minutes rather than happening at the door.

Minimum age: 21 yearsYou must be at least 21 years old to rent a vehicle from us.
Driving licence: Valid and IndianA valid, original driving licence — non-expired and issued in India.
Identification: Aadhaar or gov IDGovernment-issued ID proof for verification, by WhatsApp or in person.

Booking and payment

What you pay, and when.

A token advance confirms the booking; the balance is paid before the vehicle is handed over.

Token advance: Non-refundableA non-refundable token payment is required to confirm your booking.
Balance: Before handoverThe remaining rental amount must be paid in full before the vehicle is handed over to you.
Not included: Tolls, taxes, fuelThe rental amount excludes toll charges, state taxes and fuel costs.

Security deposit

How much is the security deposit?

The deposit is paid at pickup and is separate from the rental amount. A signed post-dated cheque is mandatory in addition to the refundable deposit, and is returned when the vehicle is returned safely.

Note: our refund policy states a faster deposit return than this page does. Where the two differ, ask us and we will confirm which applies to your booking.

Small cars: ₹5,000Refundable, paid at pickup by UPI or cash.
Large cars: ₹10,000Refundable, paid at pickup by UPI or cash.
Premium cars: ₹25,000–₹60,000Or higher, depending on the vehicle.

Using the vehicle

What you may and may not do.

All fines incurred during the rental period are the renter’s responsibility.

Drunk driving: Strictly prohibitedViolations result in immediate termination of the rental and legal action.
Overspeeding: ₹2,000 fineFor speeds exceeding 120 km/h, monitored via GPS. Repeated violations may lead to termination and forfeiture of the deposit.
Traffic violations: YoursAll fines during the rental period, including speeding and parking, are your responsibility.
Daily limit: 200 km/dayExcess kilometres will be charged.
Relocating the car: May cost extraMoving the vehicle to a different city or state may incur additional charges.
Fuel policy: Same levelReturn the vehicle with the same fuel level as at pickup.

Returning the vehicle

What happens when you bring it back.

The vehicle must be returned in the same condition it was rented — cleanliness, fuel level and no damages.

Cleaning fee: ₹250–₹500Charged if the vehicle is returned excessively dirty.
Damage: From the depositRepair costs for damages are deducted from the security deposit.
Beyond the deposit: Daily rate appliesIf damages exceed the deposit, you are liable for up to the daily rental rate until repairs are completed.
Cancellation: 48 hoursCancel or modify at least 48 hours before pickup to avoid full rental charges. No refunds inside 48 hours.
Accidents: Report immediatelyDo not repair the vehicle without our approval.
Theft or total loss: Full market valueYou are liable for the vehicle’s full market value if it is stolen or irreparably damaged.

FAQ

Questions about these terms.

How old do I have to be to rent a car?

At least 21, with a valid original Indian driving licence that has not expired and a government-issued photo ID such as Aadhaar.

How much is the security deposit?

₹5,000 on small cars, ₹10,000 on large cars and ₹25,000 to ₹60,000 on premium cars depending on the model. It is paid at pickup by UPI or cash, on top of the rental, and a signed post-dated cheque is held alongside it.

What is the fuel policy?

Return the vehicle with the same fuel level it had at pickup. Fuel is not included in the rental amount, and neither are tolls or state taxes.

How many kilometres do I get?

200 km per day. Excess kilometres are charged.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at least 48 hours before pickup with no charge. Inside 48 hours the full rental amount is charged. See the refund and cancellation policy.

Which law applies?

These terms are governed by the laws of Punjab, India. Disputes are resolved in the courts of Chandigarh or Punjab.
